Hmmm…

Again, I will say, Hmmmm….

I would love to believe these words, but I personaly feel that it is still too early to tell from one report printed this week by those that very well may be manipulating the data to move sentiment among those that are getting very discouraged.

Not sure.

But, either way, “across the nation” really does not reflect what’s going on here in Santa Monica or the Westside.  Yes, we are seeing some price adjustments moving between 5% and 15% lower than the seller’s asking price, but nothing (thank goodness!) compared to some markets around the U.S. that are nose-diving to 50% below asking price.

Again, I will repeat what I always say, and that is that our location and unique luxury features within Santa Monica and most of the Westside have continued to hold their value over time (even throughout this housing crisis) and remain a premier destination that the right buyer will pay a premium for…

Ok, sales are not “through the roof” like they have been over the past few years, they have slowed down, but there are still a lot of homes selling out there in the $5-15 million range, and even more in the $1-5 million range…

Life is still “happening”, despite this recession and those with cash are like kids in a candy shop with the incredible selection that they have to choose from!

So, don’t be discouraged if you need to sell your home on the Westside, there are buyers, believe me… and if you are in search of a great new home in a place that you never thought you could afford, then you are definitely in luck.

• Sunset Park

These neighborhood groups give a “voice” to the smaller areas of our much larger Santa Monica as a whole, and allow individuals to meet their neighbors and contribute their thoughts to the local situations at hand.

Have you ever sat in a doctor’s office waiting room and stared at the walls?   Uh, yeah, I’m sure you have…

Yikes, these are typically not pleasant places to spend the hours that it usually takes to get done what you went there for…

However, the other day in Brentwood, I noticed that my dentist had covered the glaring fluorescent light above the chair with something he called a “Sky Panel” and I thought it looked great!

It was ingenius and I immediately thought of my clients selling their homes and the perceived increase in value of covering certain bathroom or dark closet ceiling lights with this very cool concept.

As you can see in the photo here, these cloud/sky images are printed directly onto an acrylic screen that is simply placed over the flat lighting on any ceiling.

It cuts the glare and really perks up the room!

And they won’t break the bank either, well it may if you get too carried away 

Each panel runs about $40 bucks, which isn’t too bad considering that they are guaranteed to last 20 years indoors and 10 years outdoors.

So, check them out and see if they can add some value to your home, whether you are selling it right now or not!

Have you ever been to the Santa Monica City Hall?

It has been quite awhile since I’ve been in there, years actually, but I was in there this past week and I don’t remember it being so amazing!

If you have not walked through and at least taken a look at the refurbished wall murals and handmade tiles, I highly suggest that you do when you get a chance.

Dedicated in 1939, it was more recently (1996) designated a Santa Monica Historical City Landmark making it eligible for listing on the Federal Registrar of National Historic Places.

Its architecture is really unique and the vibrant colors used are very reminiscent of the times, some 70 years ago.  The murals depict local events, scenery and characters from that time period, as well giving you a palpable history lesson as you walk around and enjoy the beauty.

Located at 1685 Main St., you can easily access it from just about any direction.
